Week 6 - Ireland

After two very busy weeks we took this week a little slower. The predicted rain never came until Thursday and instead we got two days of the most beautiful weather the region ever gets, according to the locals. So Monday and Tuesday were beach days. On Tuesday the water was actually warm enough to swim.

Lest you think school was neglected, ever since we saw the Roman ruins at Corbridge, every sand castle has had an aqueduct.

Tuesday evening, J was planning to take the two older boys to Dingle for a seafood dinner. He picked up a few groceries and was on the way back to pick us up at the beach when he ran over a rock hidden in the grass while making way for another car on the narrow beach road and got a flat. If you ever need to be stranded, I recommend this spot.

The breeze and view were lovely so we just relaxed and waited for the tow truck, had conversed with local beach goers about the beautiful weather.

The dinner did have to be rescheduled, but other than that, no big deal.

Wednesday we went to Killarney to explore Crag cave and Muckross House with traditional farms.

The cave is a self paced tour with recorded audio that you download to your phone. That really worked well for us, because we usually feel rushed in a group tour, and usually miss stuff when we're totally on our own. This was the best of both worlds.

We didn't go into Muckross House, but instead spent our time exploring the traditional farms. There are restored buildings to show what life was like here in the 1920s and 30s. The staff are in period dress and there are plenty of farm animals to see and pet, plus a woodshop, leather shop, and forge. It was fun stop and the kids enjoyed the history lessons.

There was a playground at the end to add to the fun.

We picked up Italian food on the way home, which turned out to be good because it started raining and the power went out. It was back on in a couple hours, but still raining today. We're ready for a stay at home day. We're catching up on school work and laundry. Later, J will take the big kids to their postponed seafood dinner, and Sean and I will stay home and snuggle.

Saturday we go to Dublin for a few days, then on to Germany.
