Iceland Wrap-Up
One of the best things about the stay here was that the boys had the freedom to roam the farm and surrounding hills. One night I went outside to get Sean for supper and he was just a speck up on the hillside.
This was after he heard me call him and started heading my way.
Yesterday we finally made it to Guðlaug natural geothermal hot pool. This was one of the best things we did. It's not so much a tourist attraction, as some of the other hot pools are, though there were a few Americans, but a fun spot for local families. It's quite inexpensive, 300 kr for adults and 200 for kids, so we spent about $8.00 total. I just took the kids while J stayed home to pack. There are two pools, a large hot one and a smaller cold wading pool. It's also right on the beach so you can get warm in the hot pool, then play on the chilly windy beach, then back to the hot pool again. You can also just relax in the hot water and look out over the ocean. It's luxurious! I didn't get a lot of pictures because I was in the water most of the time. There was one cool surprise we didn't even know about. There is currently a volcanic eruption taking place near Keflavik. Since that's where the airport is, I thought maybe we could see it today, Saturday. However once I started researching, I found out that it's a two hour hike each way and we didn't really have time. Plus, most of the tour companies don't even allow kids under 12. So no volcano for us. However, it turned out we could see it's smoke plume from the beach so that was pretty neat.
It was a very good way to spend our last free day. Today was taken up by packing in the morning, then driving to Keflavik where we're spending the night. We did get to stop for one last Icelandic picnic on the way. I had packed a lunch, but this spot also had a food truck with the best falafel sandwiches I've ever had.
We then had to do our COVID tests and fill out our online entry forms for the UK which ended up taking all afternoon. Tomorrow, on to Scotland.
